This 5 Days Uganda primates safari: you will track the chimpanzees in Kibale Forest National Park. In fact, it is home to the largest diversity and has the highest abundance of primate species in East Africa. These include; chimpanzees, Grey cheeked Mangabeys, Red-Colobus, Potos, Red-tailed monkeys, Blue monkeys, etc. You will as well enjoy a nature walk in the Bigodi wetland swamp sanctuary for bird watching. The safari will continue to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park for the highlight activity of Gorilla trekking. Generally, the park is famous for the mountain gorillas which are among the endangered species in the world today.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Depart Kampala-Transfer to Kibale National Park

Approximate Travel time: 7 Hours

After an early breakfast, our safari guide will meet you and brief you about the safari. Later, start off your journey to Kibale Forest National Park driving westward along the Mityana-Fort Portal road. You will enjoy views of the beautiful countryside and have lunch along the way. Upon arrival, you will check into your booked accommodation for dinner and the overnight.

Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking-Nature walk

You will have an early breakfast before going for a briefing by the park rangers. Afterwards, you will set off for an amazing expedition to track chimpanzees, depending on their location. However, along the way you will encounter other primate primates while in the forest. These include; grey cheeked mangabeys, red-tailed monkeys, red-colobus, blue tailed monkeys, L’hoests, etc. The park also hosts several birds species, insects as well as colorful butterflies. After lunch, set out on a nature walk to explore the Bigodi wetland sanctuary  an eco-tourism site. Here, expect to see a number of rare plants as well as animal species including the largest antelope species; the Sitatunga. There are also various birds including: the Great blue turacoNarina trogon, Rwenzori turaco, little bulbul, etc.

Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable forest national park

Have an early morning breakfast and later transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. You will check in direct to your lodge for an overnight stay as you prepare for the next days’ adventure experience.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking-Batwa  cultural encounter

Enjoy an early morning breakfast then later head to the park headquarters for a briefing. Later, set out deep in the forest led by rangers as you search through the thick vegetation for gorillas. However, the trek may take between 2-6 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas. Upon locating them, you will be allowed one hour in their presence as you observe them do their day to day activities. In fact, it’s a very exciting moment coming face to face with these great apes. In the evening, you will go for a cultural experience with the Batwa people. While here, you will enjoy their traditional entertainment through music, dance and drama. At the end of the day’s activities, return to your accommodation for dinner and over night stay.

Day 5: Transfer to Kampala

Having your breakfast, check out of your lodge and then start on your journey back to Kampala. Drive through the beautifully-terraced escarpments through the stunning rugged hills known as ‘the little Switzerland of Africa’. Have lunch in Mbarara town, home of the long-horn Ankole cattle. Eventually, you will arrive in Kampala and depending on your flight you will be transferred to the airport.

Permits

In Uganda Gorilla trekking and chimpanzee tracking is done throughout the year. Besides, the gorilla permit goes for $800 per person while the chimpanzee permit goes for $250. However, all these are payable through the Uganda Wildlife Authority or through our Company

Requirements for the safari
  • Firstly, gorilla permits should be paid in advance through our Company or Uganda Wildlife Authority.
  • Secondly, you should have a proof of Yellow fever vaccination.
  • Good physical, fit health and mental condition.
  • Uganda Visa which can be got on arrival at the Airport.
  • Travelers must be at least 15 years old on the day of the trekking.
  • Travel & Health insurance arranged from your home Country.
  • Hiking shoes.

Standard 4X4 Safari Vans/Land cruisers

Our standard mode of transport is by road and we use 4×4 Safari van and Land cruisers with open roof tops customized for game viewing and photography.  Each Safari van/Land cruiser comes with a professionally trained driver/guide with fuel for the whole safari. Each client is entitled to a window seat and can take up to 8-10 people. We also have very comfortable super customs which can carry up to 6 people with their luggage, we also have small vehicles like Alphads, Harrier and much more that can carry 4-5 people.
