Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
On arrival at the Kigali airport, you will be received and welcomed by our safari guide from Ssemambo Tours & Travel who will brief you about this entire safari and then transfer you to your hotel where you will have your dinner and spend the night.

Day 2: Transfer to Akagera Park – Boat Cruise
Today you will have breakfast very early in the morning and then transfer to Akagera National Park, arriving in time for your lunch. In the Afternoon you will head to Lake Ihema where you will have an exciting boat ride to see various water birds including the rare shoebill stork, plus different animals including elephants, crocodiles, different antelopes and hippos. You will dine and spend the night at your lodge.

Day 3: Game drive – Boat cruise
After an early breakfast, you will you will set on a game drive across the various park trails to see a number of animals species particularly the early risers. Other species you will encounter include: water bucks, topis, elephants, oribis, buffaloes, bush bucks, zebras, baboons, giraffes, impalas as well as cape elands. You will enjoy your lunch at you accommodation and then transfer to Lake Ihema for a boat cruise to see hippos, crocodiles and numerous water birds.

Day 4: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park
Today morning right after your breakfast, our tour guide representative from Ssemambo Tours & Travels will meet you at your hotel, brief you about this safari and then drive southwestwards to Nyungwe National Park. You will make a number of stopovers along the way at Nyanza king’s palace, Butare museum as well as the Murambi genocide memorial site. On arrival you will check into your accommodation where you will have dinner and spend the night.

Day 5: Chimpanzee Tracking
In the morning you will have a very early breakfast and then head to the park headquarters where the park warden will brief you about the dos and don’ts of chimpanzee tracking. Led by armed park ranger guides you will set out into the forest and start on the search for these playful chimps. While in the forest you will encounter a number of other primate species like the vervet monkeys, black & white colobus monkeys as well as the baboons. Later in the evening you will return to your accommodation to freshen up, have dinner and spend the night.

Day 6: Canopy walk
After your breakfast, you will set out for the adventurous canopy walk deep in the forest that will offer you a unique view as you explore the forest canopy, you will see several birds and primates here. You will return to your lodge to freshen up, have dinner and spend the night.

Day 7: Transfer to Volcanoes Gorilla Park
You will enjoy your breakfast at the lodge and then start on the drive to Volcanoes National Park the home of mountain gorillas located in the extreme northeastern corner of Rwanda. On your arrival, check into your accommodation freshen up, have dinner and spend the night.

Day 8: Gorilla Trekking Adventure
Very early today morning you will have a quick cup of breakfast and then head to the park headquarter where you will be briefed by the park warden before you start on this adventurous trekking in the forest as you look for mountain gorillas. This activity takes between 2 to 7 hours depending on where the gorilla are. When you find the gorillas you will be allowed one hour in their midst during which you will record videos and even take photographs, however, please remember to keep your camera’s flash light off while at it. Later you will return for dinner and spend the night back at your accommodation.

Day 9: Golden monkey trekking or Hike to Dian Fossey’s Grave
Today is another exciting day of adventure. You may decide to either hike up to the Karisoke research Centre, where Dian Fossey an American anthropologist conducted her of research for several years and worked to conserve this species that is today listed as endangered. You will as well visit her tomb stone which is found near the burial place of digit – her favorite gorilla, or choose to trek golden monkeys. Later, transfer to Lake Kivu for dinner and the overnight.
Day 10: Boat cruise – Return to Kigali
This is the final day of this Safari. Right after breakfast, take a boat ride to the beautiful Coffee Island, and view of the breathtaking surrounding islands. From there, return to the capital city Kigali and basing on the time of your departure flight, you will be transferred to Kigali airport.

PERMITS
Chimpanzee permit costs 90 dollars for the non-resident, 60 dollars the resident, 500 Rwanda Francs for Foreign citizens and 10 dollars for the East African Citizen. Any person visiting Nyungwe National Park is as well required to pay park entrance fee of 40 dollars per person per day both the residents and non-residents. Rwanda Gorilla permits goes for 1500 dollars per person per day (inclusive park fees & ranger) whereas a Golden monkey tracking fee goes for 100 dollars per person per day (inclusive park fees & ranger).
